Austin, Texas (January 30, 2003) -- The Director of the Center for Voting and Democracy has agreed to cooperate with the efforts of this organization and Texans for Approval Voting to amend SB 135 to allow selected Texas cities to use Approval Voting if they wish. The bill as originally submitted only allows the option of Preference Voting (i.e., ranked ballots) as an alternative to the existing plurality voting system.

Austin, Texas (January 24, 2003) -- Texans for Approval Voting is forming as the first affiliate organization of Americans for Approval Voting. Members are working to pass legislation that would allow Approval Voting in a variety of Texas elections.

New York (January 22, 2003) -- Since opportunities to pass legislation allowing Approval Voting have already appeared, leaders of the Approval Voting movement have accelerated plans to create two distinct organizations aimed at increasing the knowledge and acceptance of Approval Voting.

Americans for Approval Voting is forming as a political action organization working for the adoption of Approval Voting for public elections in the United States.

Citizens for Approval Voting is operating as an educational and outreach organization focused on helping people learn about the benefits of Approval Voting. CAV also helps people use Approval Voting effectively in private organizations and other appropriate situations other than public elections.

Each organization will have its own website, Board of Directors, Officers, bank accounts, bylaws and so forth and therefore these two entities are separate and distinct organizations with different goals and purposes, although the members and leaders share a similar attitude about the merits of Approval Voting.
